Feedback Is the Breakfast of Champions. Are You Skipping It?
By Ch Adithya Swaroop
Why the people who keep growing are the ones who keep listening.
Bowling Behind a Sheet
Imagine you are bowling.
You roll the ball. You hear the pins crash. But there is a sheet hanging in front of them. You can’t see how many fell.
Would you keep playing?
Probably not. When you can’t see the result, you slowly stop caring.
Ken Blanchard used this picture to explain why feedback matters. He also made a line famous:
“Feedback is the breakfast of champions.”
Champions don’t skip breakfast. They don’t skip feedback either.
Now look at your own life. How many sheets are hanging in front of your pins?
The Higher You Go, the Less You Hear
When you are new, everyone corrects you.
When you grow, people stop. They think you already know. Some are afraid to tell you.
And your own success starts whispering, “You’ve made it. You don’t need to listen.”
This is the quiet trap. We don’t stop growing because we reached the top. We stop growing because we stopped listening.
Real champions do the opposite. The higher they go, the more they ask.
You Don’t Have to Fix All 100
Being open to feedback does not mean doing everything people say.
If 100 people give you feedback, you can’t work on all 100. Try it, and you’ll fix nothing.
Listen to all of it. Act on what you are ready for.
Pick one thing. Work on it until it becomes part of you. Then pick the next. That’s how feedback turns from a heavy pile into small, steady steps.
But be honest with yourself. “I’m not ready” can become a hiding place. The feedback we keep avoiding is often the one we need the most. (I wrote more about this in Are You Going with the Flow, or Just Avoiding Something?)
Readiness decides the order. Not whether you face it.
The Joy Is in the Effort
Here is what I truly believe: happiness lives in the effort, not in the destination.
The Gita said it long ago. Give yourself fully to the work, and let go of the fruits.
If joy lives only at the destination, what happens when you reach it? You celebrate for a day. Then it feels empty.
If joy lives in the effort, you always need something to work on. Feedback gives you exactly that. It shows you the next step.
When you see the next step, you move. When you move, you grow. When you grow, you enjoy the journey. That’s momentum.
It works for a beginner. It works for an expert. There is always a next step for anyone willing to hear it.
Growth, Not Validation
This is also what coaching means to me.
Coaching is not someone telling you that you are already perfect. It is an honest conversation that helps you see what’s behind the sheet.

Not every pin falls. But now you can see which ones are left.
So take the sheet down. Listen to everything. Choose what you’re ready for. Enjoy the effort.
Ask yourself one question today: what feedback have I been avoiding? Share it in the comments, or just write it down for yourself.
